Exploring open-source ecological design

Circuitboard

There is an agenda behind LSFA. It’s not just a place for creative exploration. It’s a place for creative exploration with political intent. We are exploring how to build economic systems that are more open, more integrated into ecological reality, more socially just, and that appeal to more than just narrow material interests. To get a sense if you’d be interested in getting involved, take a look at these pieces that sketch out broad areas to be explored.

The Heretic’s Guide to Global Finance

Heretic's Guide 3D

Many of the ideas behind LSFA were originally sketched out in my book on global finance, a friendly guide to taking on the world’s most powerful industry. If you’d like to find out more about that, check out the page here

The book is aimed at helping the reader develop a diverse DIY toolbox to undertake their own adventures in guerilla finance. Part 1 (Exploring) covers the major financial players, concepts and instruments. Part 2 (Jamming) explores innovative forms of financial activism, from disrupting investment into fossil fuels to building your own hedge funds of dissent. Part 3 (Building) showcases the growing alternative finance movement – including peer-to-peer systems, alternative currencies, and co-operative economies – and shows how you can get involved in building a democratic financial system.

Over the last several months then, I’ve been doing my talks and workshops around all these three broad areas, from general demystification of finance, to activist strategies, to alternative finance. I’ve also been building up the intellectual backing behind where this is going – to get a sense for this check out some of the articles and interviews I’ve been doing.
